Appalu is a traditional naivedyam recipe from andhra pradesh. This is main naivedyam for lord hanuman, Lashmi devi and durga devi and lord venkateswara swamy. It is crunchy outside layer and smooth inside layer. And taste is awsome.
Most of temples used to make this appalu as naivedyam. Some make this recipe with rice flour and some make with wheat flour.
You can make this recipe within half an hour. Most of people will not add moong dal, but if you add moong dal while making appalu the taste will be awsome and very tasty. Really you will love it.

- water – 1.5 cups
- Moong dal – 1/2 cup
- Jaggery – 1/2 cup
- Ghee – 1 tbsp
- Rice flour – 1 cup
- oil – for deep fry
Step 1 In a kadai take one and half cup of water
Step 2 Add 1/2 cup of washed moong dal and stir well
Step 3 Cook moong dal for 5 min in medium flame
Step 4 After 5 min add 1/2 cup of jaggery and 1 tbsp of cow ghee and stir untill jaggery melts well
Step 5 After jaggery melts completely add 1 cup of rice flour and stir well to avoid lumps
Step 6 Stir until the dough becomes like a chapathi dough.
Step 7 Close lid and cook the dough for 5 min in simmer
Step 8 Transfer the dough into a bowl and let it cool completely
Step 9 After cooled completely knead the dough to make it more soft and smooth
Step 10 Now take a lemon sized dough and make a ball and flatten it as shown in the figure. These are called appalu
Step 11 Fry the prepared appalu in medium heated oil
Step 12 fry until goden color.
Step 13 Thats it Tasty and Crisy Appalu is ready for naivedyam.
